Welcome

Welcome to my little corner of the web! I’m Kemotep! I would like to think of myself as a Digital Columbo, solving computer crimes, but its more like being a digital custodian. I am also into tabletop roleplaying games (and video games), and enjoying a nice beverage outside on a cool summer morning.

I am a Cybersecurity professional based out of Ohio in the United States. I have over 10 years of experience working in Information Technology and over 4 years specifically in my current role in Cybersecurity. I have my Associate’s degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance and currently am a GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH). I have been into computers as far back as I remember. Using a DOS prompt to navigate to DOOM.EXE or other games like SkiFree are some of my earliest memories using a computer. In 2015 I restarted my college career and was introduced to Linux through my professor with Kali Linux. After completely messing up my Windows 7 install on my laptop, all I had was a Kali Linux live boot to be able to finish my homework for finals that semester. I got LibeOffice working on Kali 1.0 (pretty sure I had to build it from source, if I remember correctly), finished my homework, then that winter break got Ubuntu 15.10 working on that laptop and have been primarily a Linux user ever since. Just this past month (June 2026), after months of reading about and experimenting with FreeBSD, inspired by the LTT Linux challenge, did my own #30DayBSDChallenge, and now I am primarily a full time BSD user.

Built With

This website is built using markdown files (created using Vim), magick.css, and coverted into static HTML pages using pandoc. It is currently hosted on pgs.sh by pico.sh but ultimately my goal would be to self-host from my home. I currently lack the firewall and spare hardware setup I feel it would be appropriate to have before I expose a device inside my home to the world wide web. It’s not too safe out there.

Goals

My goals are to share my cybersecurity opinions and IT experiences with the community. To give back to the web for all the great articles, blogs, and tutorials that have guided my on my journey over the years. I plan to use this site to share projects, tips, tricks, and other nonsense. I can use this site to learn self-hosting, BSD/Unix-like administration, web development, and practice writing and expressing myself. If I end up with a dozen regular vistors who get at least 1 thing of value from my blog/posts a year this place will be a smashing success.

Ultimately, I would like to self-host, setup RSS, Fediverse integration, and use this as my own little internet garden cultivating my infosec blog, TTRPG zine designer aspirations, and ugly, but handcrafted code.

Acknowledgements

I would like to acknowledge that all of that I have in my life are due to the support of my loving family, my beautiful wife and incredible daughter. Without their love and support I would not be where I am today. I would also like to acknowledge the infosec community and how much they have taught me. (Special shout out to Hacks4Pancakes, aka Lesley Carhart for their amazing GIAC study guide). Without help from community members like them and my community college professors inspiring me to get into Cybersecurity, I would not be where I am today. I would like to also give a special shoutout to Open Source developers working on Linux and the BSDs, software like Vim, pandoc, VLC, and more. Amazing software like FreeBSD make using computers fun.

Licensing

All written content by me, Kemotep, will be freely available under a Creative Commons license, specifically CC BY-SA 4.0. The code for the site will be available under a modified BSD license. Sort of like a cross between a Zero Clause BSD and the GPL, see LICENSE.txt. This is probably a mistake and I should just use GPL and BSD0 where it makes sense, but I am effectively tossing this over the garden wall and if you want to use it, just acknowledge where it came from. All other software and content referenced, utilized, and part of this site and my projects rights’ are held by their respective creators.
