Welcome to my little corner of the web!

Online, I go by Kemotep and have done so for decades at this point. I would like to think of myself as a Digital Columbo, solving little computer crimes, but being in IT, I am more like a digital custodian.

I am a Cybersecurity professional currently living in Ohio. I have over 10 years of experience working in Information Technology and over 4 years specifically in my current role in Cybersecurity. I have my Associate’s degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance and currently am a GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH). I have been into computers as far back as I remember. Using a DOS prompt to navigate to DOOM.EXE or other games like SkiFree are some of my earliest memories using a computer. In 2015 I restarted my college career and was introduced to Linux through my professor with Kali Linux. After completely messing up my Windows 7 install on my laptop, all I had was a Kali Linux live boot to be able to finish my homework for finals that semester. I got LibreOffice working on Kali 1.0 (pretty sure I had to build it from source, if I remember correctly), completed my homework, then that winter break got Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf!) working on that laptop and have been primarily a Linux user ever since. In June of 2026, after months of reading about and experimenting with FreeBSD, I was inspired by the LTT Linux challenge. I did my own #30DayBSDChallenge, and now I am a full time BSD user. This Website is Built With

I am using markdown files (created using Vim), with a dash of HTML and CSS (magick.css), coverted into static HTML pages with help from pandoc and a Fish shell script. It is currently hosted on pgs.sh by pico.sh but ultimately my goal would be to self-host from my home. I currently lack the firewall and the spare hardware setup I feel it would be appropriate to have before I expose a device inside my home to the world wide web. It’s not too safe out there after all and that would give my wife a bit more peace of mind with this whole ordeal.

Goals

My goals are to share my cybersecurity opinions and IT experiences with the community. To give back to the web for all the great articles, blogs, and tutorials that have guided my on my journey over the years. I plan to use this site to share projects, tips, tricks, and other nonsense. I can use this site to learn self-hosting, BSD/Unix-like administration, web development, and practice writing and expressing myself. If I end up with a dozen regular vistors who get at least 1 thing of value from my posts a year this place will be a smashing success.

Ultimately, I would like to self-host, setup RSS, Fediverse integration, and use this as my own little internet garden cultivating my infosec blog, TTRPG zine designer aspirations, and more.

Acknowledgements

I would like to acknowledge that everything that I have in my life is due to the support of my loving family: my beautiful wife, my incredible daughter, and a very good dog. Without their love and support I would not be where I am today. I would also like to acknowledge the infosec community and how much they have taught me. (Special shout out to Hacks4Pancakes, aka Lesley Carhart for their amazing GIAC study guide). Without help from community members like them and my community college professors inspiring me to get into Cybersecurity, I would not be as successful in Cybersecurity as I am today. I would like to also give a special shoutout to Free, Libre, and Open Source developers working on Linux and the BSDs, software like Vim, pandoc, VLC, and more. Amazing projects like FreeBSD make using computers fun. I am incredibly fortunate and blessed and I hope to give back to my family and the community as best I can.

All written content by me, Kemotep, will be freely available under a Creative Commons license, specifically CC BY-SA 4.0. The code for the site will be available under a Zero-Clause BSD License, see LICENSE.txt. This is probably a mistake and I should just use GPL where it makes sense, but I am effectively tossing this over the garden wall and if you want to use it, just please be kind and acknowledge where it came from. All other software and content referenced, utilized, and part of this site and my projects rights’ are held by their respective creators.
